Los Angeles residence of actor Jim Carrey to be sold for $28.9 million
The home in Los Angeles where actor Jim Carrey has resided for almost 30 years is being offered for sale for $28.9 million.
Canadian-born Mr. Carrey bought the ranch-style house in Brentwood in 1994, about the time “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” his first big box office success, opened theaters. The amount of money he had to pay wasn’t totally clear.
Mr. Carrey said in a statement that the property has served as “a place of enchantment and inspiration” for him over the course of “30 very creative and prosperous years.”
“Every night the owls sang me lullabies, and every morning I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine,” he added. “Every night the owls sang me lullabies.” “Every night the owls sang me lullabies.”

According to Janelle Friedman of Sotheby’s International Realty, the approximately 12,700 square foot estate contains a main home with five bedrooms, a historic brick façade, and contemporary interiors. The property is around 2 acres in size and includes a fitness center, a tennis court, a waterfall pool and a jacuzzi, as well as a pool house with a sauna and steam room. According to her, there is also an outdoor platform constructed exclusively for yoga and meditation.

There is a lot of Mr. Carrey’s personality present throughout the entire property. The walls of a custom home theater decorated in the Art Deco style display the costumes that Mr. Carrey employed in his movies. Mohair-covered couches, burl wood columns, and a snack area may also be found in this home theater. They include a set of blue overalls from the film “The Cable Guy” and a Santa Claus outfit from “The Grinch.” His “Batman Forever” Riddler costume and other MTV Movie & TV Awards medals are on display in the venue’s adjacent bar section.

The home’s neutral and delicate aesthetic is broken up by bold splashes of color, some of which are provided by Mr. Carrey’s own artwork. Mr. Carrey is a prolific painter who has acquired popularity for his compositions that are bright, graphic, and color-saturated, in addition to his acting career. Mr. Carrey’s sculpture, “Ayla,” can be found on the lawn. It depicts a naked woman peering through the hole of a picture frame. At this moment, the artwork and personal things are not included in the sale of the residence.

The main living area in the main home has skylights and exposed beams in the pitched ceilings. Additionally, there are fireplaces in the living room, dining room, and family room. French doors along the length of the house open onto a wide courtyard terrace. The master suite includes a sitting area, fireplace, and covered balcony with views of the surrounding neighborhood.
Mr. Carrey has stated in a statement that the reason he is selling the property is that he does not spend as much time there as he used to. “I want someone else to enjoy it as I have,” he remarked, making a reference to a well-known song by David Bowie called “Ch-ch-ch-changes!”
