The Weeknd, Abel Tesfaye, has spent $70 million on a beautiful Bel Air property, making it one of the greatest real estate deals in Los Angeles this year.

Reinout Oerlemans, a Dutch media entrepreneur, and his wife Danielle Oerlemans said they had no intention of selling their recently remodeled Beverly Hills Estates home until Beverly Hills Estates real estate agents Rayni and Branden Williams approached them about showing it to the music superstar.

Danielle Oerlemans supervised the property’s total redesign. There are orange walls and a black stone fireplace in the living room.

Ms. Williams claimed that she was aware of Mr. Tesfaye’s search for a new home and that she thought this particular property would satisfy all of his needs. She claimed that although the Oerlemanses originally protested, they ultimately changed their minds. The sale of the property took place in private.

It has nine bedrooms, a sports court, a spa with a sauna and a hammam, an indoor pool, an outdoor infinity pool with a waterfall, a movie theater, a gym, and a music studio, all of which are located in the approximately 33,000 square foot mansion on roughly 1.6 acres overlooking the prestigious Bel-Air Country Club.

The building is elegant and dramatic. It has a large living and gathering space with high-gloss walls that have been spray-painted orange and a black fireplace, an office with an industrial design, and a formal dining room with vaulted ceilings and a fireplace. The kitchen has copper cabinets with belt-style pulls made of leather.

The Oerlemans, who paid $21.4 million for their house in 2015, just finished a roughly three-year restoration. When they bought the house, Mr. Oerlemans remarked that the interior design was “horrendous,” but he saw good bones and enjoyed the neighborhood.

Ms. Oerlemans totally remodeled the interior, working with one of her favorite interior designers and importing modern furnishings from all over the world, including their home country of the Netherlands. They added around 13,000 square feet to the property to accommodate the spa and other facilities.

Mr. Oerlemans mentioned that he has worked in the media and entertainment industry for 25 years. He began his career in Europe as an actor and television presenter before moving on to directing and producing. He founded his own production firm, Eyeworks, in 2001, which he sold to Warner Bros. in 2014. Ms. Oerlemans used to be a competitive cyclist.

According to a person familiar with the transaction, Madonna paid roughly $20 million for Mr. Tesfaye’s previous home in Los Angeles’ Hidden Hills neighborhood earlier this year.

Mr. Tesfaye’s representative did not respond quickly. Ms. Williams added that the musician is handled by Angel Salvador of Beverly Hills Estates.

Mr. Tesfaye rose to fame in the middle of the 2010s after being raised in Canada by Ethiopian parents. His most well-known tunes include “Can’t Feel My Face” and “Blinding Lights.”
